Introducing The IB Consulting Practicum
Going Live Fall 2024!
A career in consulting is an enriching and rewarding journey, and the Integrated Business Department is proud to launch a unique program that aims to prepare select students for a career in management consulting. This practicum prepares students for entry-level positions in the consulting career path. Candidates are not expected to have previous experience in or knowledge of consulting. However, they should demonstrate excellence in their current coursework, professionalism, and curiosity.
The practicum structure:
- The practicum is composed of two courses that provide a total of 3-credit hours and can be used as your IB elective course
- The 3 credit hours will be split over two semesters
- During the First semester, you will learn principles, processes, and frameworks related to the consulting industry.
- During the second semester, you will participate in a consulting project for a client.
- The practicum will select a cohort of 5-7 students per semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer)
- The courses will be taught jointly by IB faculty members Drs Ghada Baz, Sara Lopez, and Elizabeth Yost.
Eligibility requirements:
The candidates must meet the following requirements to enroll in the practicum:
- Enrollment or pre-enrollment in the Integrated Business major
- A UCF GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- At least two semesters away from graduation at the time of enrollment in the first course of the practicum
- Pre-requisite courses: Integrated Business Foundations (GEB 3031) and Applied Business Technologies (GEB 4513) – A student can be enrolled in IB Foundations and ABT when they apply but must have completed them before they start the program (or they will be dropped)

- Letter of intent in the student’s words describing how they expect the practicum to contribute to their career goals (maximum 1 page)
- Letter of recommendation from a UCF academic reference (maximum 1 page)
Application process timeline:
- The application deadline is June 15, 2024.
- A short list of candidates will be invited for interviews. Interviews will be completed by July 15, 2024.
- Selected candidates will be notified before the enrollment deadline for Fall 2024.
