IB Internships: Choosing the Right One

Written By Tiara Jimenez

What is the importance of choosing the right internship?

achievable goal. They go to college, graduate, go to grad school and then regret every second of it since they didn’t expect to hate their dream job. A lot of young professionals are suffering from burn out.

There is a great way to avoid this and make sure that your dreams are aligned with both reality and your personality. You can be a part of engaging internships. There are many internships available, but you always want to choose an internship that can provide you with real world experience. This will help you with your resume and you will also make sure that you are making the right career decision.

Before I was an IB major at UCF, I was a Pre-Med student where I did 2 internships. During my first internship, I mostly did data entry in Excel. It satisfied the internship criteria for my school, but it didn’t help me test the field. My second internship was hands on with patients. I did it for a year, and at first I loved it! But, after a few months I realized that there was no way I could do this for the rest of my life.

After realizing this, I had to take a break from school. I did the Disney College Program and then worked for a year. I utilized that time to do research into different possible careers. After meeting some people who did different roles in the business world, I decided to change my career path. I can say changing it to focus on business has been a great decision. On the other hand, I have friends who only did the data entry internships. They finished med school and now hate being doctors and don’t even want to start working since the rotations were enough.

Long story short, I wanted to give you insight so you can be wise while choosing your internships. It can play a more important role than you will ever imagine.
