On Friday, February 7th Integrated Business hosted 54 students from 5 area high schools in a day of skill building and competition. High school students were assigned to teams with students from other schools. The teams spent the morning getting to know each other through team building exercises and learning about marketing, PESTLE analysis, and presentation strategies from some of our Integrated Business student trainers. After lunch, the teams were given 2 ½ hours to put together a presentation drawing upon what they learned in the morning to propose solutions to a business case. The high school teams were assisted by Integrated Business student coaches. The teams presented their recommendations to panels of Integrated Business faculty and alumni.
Professor Jennifer Morin: “The Integrated Business High School competition was an amazing event! It was valuable and meaningful for everyone involved as it provided an incredible opportunity for fostering the types of skills that our IB program prides itself upon – “soft” skills such as team building, leadership, critical thinking, collaboration, and presentation skills as well as technical, “hard” skills in disciplines such as marketing and strategic business analysis. High school students were able to come and receive training, coaching, and support from our current IB students, who shared skills they have refined throughout their UCF and IB coursework. It was incredible to see the teams of high school students analyze their cases and present their recommendations to IB Faculty and IB Alumni. High school teachers also had the opportunity to hear more about the “flipped” classroom through interactive professional development sessions with our IB faculty. ”
Stephanie Feliciano, IB Alum: “It was such a pleasure! I look forward to attending more events in the future and helping the program in any way I can. Great job to you and the staff that pulled this together – I was SO impressed! Go IB!!”
Komal Bhatti, IB Student, High School Team Coach: “Thank you for such a great opportunity and experience at the IB Case Competition. Not only did I learn a lot, but also made some connections that will help me grow as a student.”
